My Father Special Edition 2012

When my Fianceé 's Mom gave me a gift certificate to The Wharf for Christmas, I already had a plan for it.  They just received a box of My Father Special Editions (blended by Don Pepin's Son, Jaime) and the day after Christmas, I stopped in and cashed in for one.  Anything the Garcia family puts out gets me excited like my Son with a new video game.  So, was my giddiness well founded?  Silly question...but let's see.....

Construction: This is a beautiful cigar.  The wrapper is milk chocolate brown, smooth with very few veins, and perfectly rolled.  The band is simply beautiful - a real work of art.

Pre-light Aroma and Draw: I picked up a nice sweet tobacco and woody aroma out of the cellophane with a hint of that smell that can only be described as barnyard.

Light and Burn: The triple cap cuts easily and the draw is perfect.  Burn is nearly perfect.  Couple of mild cool spots that needed a nothing more than a quick shot from my three flame jet and a puff of wind.  The ash is white and clings well.

Tasting: The 2012 is incredibly complex as you might expect from the Garcia family.  The opening puff shows off the spicy blast that is the hallmark of their blends.  This one is more cinnamon in character than the floral tea you find in the Tatuaje Havana VI or the woody pumpkin spice of the Tabacos Baez line.  I picked up creamy coffee, a rich leather (one of Jaime's trademarks), plenty of spice, and something like paprika.  Into the final third there were strong flavors of black coffee and pepper.  Truly exceptional.

Value: I can't complain.  This was a freebie thanks to a gift certificate I received as a Christmas present.  The price for one is around $20 and it is worth every cent.

Final Thoughts: This is a special occasion cigar to share with friends and family.  In fact, I bought some of the Le Bijou 1922 line for my Dad as part of his Christmas present.  There are few cigars out there that really exemplify the love of cigars like the My Father brand.  If you haven't tried them you owe it to yourself to light one up.  I highly recommend this incredible cigar.
