A. Fuente Don Carlos Robusto

Famous Smoke Shop sent material for the easiest review I have ever had the pleasure of doing.  I mean, a Fuente?  They are Cigar Royalty, folks.  And the Don Carlos line is easily the Duke of their lineage.  I will get right to it....

Construction: The Don Carlos line is not the prettiest cigar around.  They are usually a bit lumpy and have the occasional vein here and there.  I  have had some issues with the wrapper splitting too - but in defense of this terrific smoke, the wrapper leaf is very delicate on this cigar, and a few issues here and there do not detract from the flavor at all.

Pre-light Aroma and Draw: The Don Carlos has a nice earthy and sweet tobacco aroma out of the cellophane.  The draw on these is always perfect and a cold pull gives a sweet tobacco and toffee note.  The wrapper did split in a couple of spots but the cigar burned right past them without issue.

Light and Burn: Flawless from start to finish.  A nice white ash that clings well....I had a couple of inches before it dropped.

Tasting: Starting off I get some mild pepper notes, tons of cedar, a touch of flint, and that caramel sweetness that Cameroon wrappers are known for.  Smoke out put is massive and aromatic.  A tad more pepper creeps in as the first third comes to a close but it is still quite mild and tasty.  A cocoa and light roast coffee creep in as well.

The middle third starts with a mingling of caramel, cocoa, coffee, cedar, and spice.  Strength is medium straight through.  The sweetness really kicks up a notch in this section of the cigar too.  This would go well with rum or sangria - sweet.

The final third starts with wood, nuts, caramel, and cocoa notes.  Overall a simply delicious cigar.  It heats up a bit here but it doesn't get harsh or bitter.  Just classic and terrific across the board.

Value: At just $9.60, this is a well priced cigar...I mean, it's a classic!  Find some great Fuente smokes Online from Famous.

Final Thoughts: This is a classic cigar in terms of flavor and aesthetics.  100 Years from now, people will still be smoking or at least talking about this cigar.  I don't smoke Fuente products often these days, but when I do, they remind me what consistency and quality taste like.  The Don Carlos is a cigar for the ages. One that every new cigar smoker should try and one every old salt should go back to for a trip down memory lane. Highly recommended.
