Tatuaje Baby Face

I admit it, I am a chicken.  When it comes to horror movies, I tend to stay away from slasher films as a rule.  They terrified me as a kid and I still have a slight aversion to them.  There are a few exceptions of course, but the one that I have never been able to watch all the way through is the Texas Chainsaw series.  I have seen clips here and there but overall the premise scared me enough that I have shied away from it over the years.  So, with some chagrin, I review the small version of the cigar in honor of the antagonist therein, Leatherface.  The cigar named Baby Face was part of the Little Monsters series so I just had to give it a whirl.

Construction: This is a killer looking cigar - pun intended.  The chocolate brown wrapper is gorgeous but the band is where its at.  It's a chunk of connecticut wrapper leaf stretched around the body of the cigar like a piece of leather...very appropriate, yes?  I read a quote from Pete Johnson where he explained that the aging process caused some of them to appear very blotchy as the oil pods in the leaf exploded - he liked the look, Pepin did not.  I think that would have been a very cool way to release this specific cigar but some consumers might have thought them spoiled.  Oh well, I guess.

Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Out of the cellophane, the Baby Face gives off some barnyard and cedar aromas.  The draw is perfect as usual too.

Light and Burn: The burn produces loads of smoke and the burn is razor sharp from start to finish.

Tasting: Starting off the Baby Face hits with cocoa, lemon zest, leather, and coffee.  Killer start!

The first third provides a nice balance of leather, red pepper, cocoa, and black coffee.

The second third provides hints of earth, bittersweet, and a fain vanilla flavor that is just terrific.

The final third - which approaches too soon for my liking - continues with a nice play of all of the flavors seen throughout the cigar.  Simply awesome.

Value: At around $7.50, the Baby Face is a well priced cigar but to find them you need to shell out $75 or so for the sampler pack....if you can find one.

Final Thoughts: Delicious!  This is another of Pete's limited release creations I would smoke time and time again if they were readily available. I put this one in second place after the Frank Jr.  which just blew my mind.  Will the Baby Face get me to watch the Texas Chainsaw series?  Maybe so.  Highly recommended!
