One of the glaring omissions from The Wharf's already loaded and top-notch stock was La Flor Dominicana.  News over the holidays that they were going to be getting them in at last caused more buzz than a bear around the honeycomb.  Every UPS delivery was followed by a wave of excitement and then disappointment while waiting for the LFD order to arrive.  Yesterday at one in the afternoon they took delivery and everyone was jumping.  Josh McGrath - one of the speediest typists, I have ever seen - keyed them into the system with lightning speed and I skimmed three offerings off the top....well, two.  I picked up the Air Bender and a massive double corona Coronado....then Dillon tossed a L-250 at me and I ended up with three.  That leaves three more I need to snag - the Cameroon Cabinet, L-300, and Double Ligero 564.  Of the three I took home, I had eyes for the petite sized robusto L-250.  Oh, I am stoked to try the Air Bender....but something about this little ligero cigar had my mouth watering.  How was it?  Let's see....

Construction: This is a terrific looking cigar.  The wrapper just glistens with oils and if you look closely you will see some gorgeous mottling with the brown hues of the leaf.  I remarked to the guys at The Wharf that it looks like it had been soaked in something.  Just a great look and very few veins.

Pre-light Aroma and Draw: The aroma of this un-cellophaned baby is sweet tobacco and dark chocolate.  A whiff of the foot brings an unmistakeable aroma of brown sugar.  The draw is perfect as well.  So far expectations were sky high.

Light and Burn: It's a crazy warm day for this time of year....a balmy 50 with wind gusts around 30mph.  As with any cigar - when smoked in the wind you are going to have some burn issues.  I had a few with this little guy.  Nothing terrible but I did have a couple of hot spots along the way.

Tasting: Ah, ligero...how do I love thee?  This is a truly delicious cigar.  Plenty of cocoa, cedar, espresso, some roasted nuts, and an overall sweetness that just makes you wish it was a bigger vitola. Into the final third it really opens up into a smooth and rich cocoa and coffee powerhouse.

Value: I paid around $6 and some change for the 250.  And you can bet I will be going back for more at that price.

Final Thoughts: For their initial buy, The Wharf picked up the L-250 and the L-300.  We are expecting the entire stock of LFD to sell fast, so I would rocket-sled your way there in the next few days to stock up on these absolutely delicious smokes.  It's a relaxing and satisfying cigar that I can highly recommend to more jaded cigar smokers.  Ligero is plucked from the top of the tobacco plant and is a powerful leaf that should be avoided by the novice.
