Tatuaje Fausto FT166 Short Churchill

Yet another of the seemingly unknown brands in the humidor at The Market, the Fausto caught my eye the same day that I found the Cabaiguan but alas, I didn't know anything about it and passed it up. After the full-tilt Tatuaje rush was on, I went back and grabbed some of the Fausto label. Man, am I glad I did. This review is not my first Fausto....nowhere near. I just thought I should treat myself to another one and review it....I know, I am justifying but please forgive me. So, how does this cigar rate? Let's see....

Construction: The Fausto is a beautiful cigar. The dark maduro wrapper is shining with oils and there is a very subtle vein pattern that makes it look ominous. Considering the name of the cigar AND the devil logo, I think this is a very nice touch.

Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Tons of cocoa and coffee after pulling the beauty from the cellophane. Clipping the triple cap is easy and the draw is unsurprisingly perfect.

Light and Burn: The Fausto lights right up....with matches or other lighting instrument. If they lit automatically as if by some devilish witchcraft, I might buy a truckload of them. Burn on the Fausto is typically even and perfect. I did have some issues with this particular cigar. The burn was a bit wonky and I saw something new that I was a little surprised to see....the ash produced a cone. This is usually due to the rolling technique employed and is not a real issue - I just usually don't see this in Tatuaje cigars.

Tasting: Fausto is a powerhouse. It hits with spice at the beginning and is an unrelenting full-bodied monster until you put it out. I would say they are not as powerful as something like the La Sirena but this is an altogether different cigar. There are tons of espresso, leather, cocoa, and spice flavors. The best adjective I can think of is " manly" ....this is a manly cigar. Something you might expect to see Clint Eastwood gnawing on in one of his westerns. This vitola really blossoms as you approach the final third. The draw becomes cool and smooth with a spicy cocoa flavor that reminds me of Mexican hot chocolate with chili powder.

Value: Fausto is not cheap. The price for this short churchill is close to $9.....some of the smaller sizes are a buck or so cheaper...but at least you don't have to sell your soul.

Final Thoughts: Fausto is a terrific cigar. I like them after a big meal or a particularly rough day at the office. Overall it's a cigar I could smoke regularly and one I enjoy every time I light one up. If you like maduro cigars you should certainly try this monster out. If you are new cigar smoker certainly steer clear until you tackle full-bodied cigars. Highly recommended.
