Today we are going to review a cigar that I would call a tried and true classic.  They have been around for years and they are one of the most recognized brands around.  Often I have found that folks overlook the classic Padron line because the high end of their lines gets all of the attention and press.  So I hope this will energize folks to dip into what is a terrific catalog.  The samples for this review were provided by the friendly folks at Famous Smoke Shop.  Let's get smoking....

Construction: The core Padron line has always had a very rough and rustic look.  Slightly lumpy, a few seam pops here and there, and a dry looking wrapper leaf make these look like something you would expect to see Clint Eastwood chomping on in an old western.  The simple brown and white band has a terrific vintage feel to it that I love.

Pre-light Aroma and Draw: A nice earthy and leathery note comes from the wrapper and a hint of sweet tobacco and raisin from the foot.  The draw is absolutely flawless.

Light and Burn: Spot on perfect from start to finish. A medium gray ash that clings like crazy with no burn issues at all. 

Tasting:  Starting off there is a nice nutty core with hints of paper, warm tobacco, cocoa, and earth mingle well together.  I get notes of vanilla and mild black pepper too.  As the first third dies the core switches from nuts to spice.  A terrific start.

A honey sweet note starts off the middle third with a nice black tea note in there too.  On top of the prevailing peppery spice it makes for a very interesting flavor profile.  Things smooth out a bit but the strength does not drop off.  Still in the full arena.  A terrific balance against the spicy core.

The final third hits with a sticky sweet flavor, a bit of dark chocolate, and a touch of something like nutmeg.  Again, not totally in your face - you have to concentrate to pick things out of the spice - but they are there and it all adds up to a really awesome cigar.

Value: At around $6 or less, this is a good anytime cigar.

Final Thoughts: I will admit that it has been years since I have smoked one of these classic Padron cigars.  This review was one I wondered how it was going to turn out...and I am impressed.
