One of the richest stories among the old Universal monster movies comes wrapped in The Mummy....however the film doesn't show enough of the mummy itself and that is a shame.  The costume was incredible.  I actually prefer the Hammer version from 1959 to the original.  Now, if you make me choose my favorite mummy movie I will choose Bubba Ho-Tep, which if you haven''t seen that one you should - Elvis and JFK at a rest home in Mud Creek Texas fight a soul sucking mummy....hilarious and spooky at the same time.
Oh yeah, this is a cigar blog.  Almost forgot.  There are four things I can go on about for hours...cigars, movies, books, and music.  Anyway, the latest Halloween cigar review is the Tatuaje Mini Mum.  Got my grubby paws on one of these as a give-away from our local Tatuaje rep during an event.  Without any further bluster let's see how this baby smokes....
Construction: The Mini Mum is a gorgeous cigar.  The wrapper is a nice creamy light brown with a few minor veins and a perfectly constructed triple cap.  The foot is completely closed off which plays to the theme of the cigar pretty well.
Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Out of the cellophane, I get aromas of tea, grass, cedar, and a touch of cinnamon.  The draw is absolutely perfect.  Not too open or closed.
Light and Burn: Somehow I ended up lighting this cigar with matches outside - never an easy feat in Xenia, Ohio.  The burn was spot on from start to finish.
Tasting: Starting off I get a mild hit of white pepper and roast nuts.  The first third develops into a very dry smoke laced with very complimentary flavors.  I pick up white pepper, cedar, some dried fruit and graham crackers, which gives that dry flavor.
The second third gives a light roast coffee, dry wood, and some citrus to the mix.  While not as complex as the Frank Jr, I think it is another testament to Pete's rather prodigious skill as a master blender.  The flavors are rather unusual but very well balanced.
The final third is here with roasted nuts, cream, and more citrus on top of that white pepper core.  I can only find one fault with this cigar....it's just too short....I want a 9 x 42 version of this one.
Value: The usual price is around $7.50 for one of these - but you will need to find a sampler pack of the Little Monsters for $75 to round them up.
Final Thoughts: I enjoyed the Mum very much but I didn't find it as tasty as the Frank Jr.  The Mini Mum is an excellent cigar - please don't get me wrong - and it is a masterfully constructed and blended creation - I just think the Frank was a bit more my speed.  The Mini Mum is still so good that if I could get a pile of them I would make them my every morning cigar, easily.  The body being in the medium area, it would fit very well with a cup of coffee or tea.  Highly recommended.
