Hailing from the Emilio Cigars catalog of excellent partnerships comes the Guayacan.  Named for a shrub that grows in the tropics (aka Soapbush) and created by Noel Rojas, this cigar label is among the many Emilio products recently added to the already heavily stocked shelves at The Wharf.  My good buddy, Josh....or " Not Steve" as we call him, was able to smoke a sample provided by Emilio sales manager, Nate McIntyre, and he raved about it.  As the giant shipment of Emilio products finally landed at the shop today, I was able to snag one of them as the box was opened.  Josh and I typically have similar tastes in cigars so this one seemed to be right up my alley.  How is it? ... Last Fall, I happened upon a great little cigar shop in Gatlinburg, TN by the name of Smokezy.  The owner pointed out a few cigars as I browsed her shelves and I selected an Omar Ortiz.  I smoked it the following week during a Wharf Wednesday and was impressed.  I have since noticed that The Wharf carries these beauties too.  Nice.  I don't need to get in the car and drive to Tennessee to get more of them!  But I digress.  I have since picked up another one of them with intent to review.  How was it this time around?  Let's see.... Construction: The OOO is a very attractive cigar.  A nice hefty chunky robusto with an extremely oily wrapper.  That wrapper is a nice... Continue reading »»
I have enjoyed every single cigar from Emilio Cigars, that I have tried thus far.  Each one not only excels at being a great cigar but each one is unique and fills in a spot in what is shaping up to be an amazing catalog.  Over the past few months, I have really learned to enjoy Sumatra wrappers.  I know a few guys that wrinkle their noses at that but Sumatra is a nice mild leaf that can be paired with a plethora of binders and fillers to achieve all sorts of flavor profiles.  My current favorite cigar on Earth is the Tatuaje Cojonu 2012 Sumatra.  So, seeing the Serie H Sumatra in the stash of samples from Nate at Emilio Cigars, I started salivating. ... It's been a rough week for me.  My Grandpa, who was like a Father to me, passed away after 91 amazing years on this Earth.  He was a WWII vet, a man that could fix anything, and just the greatest man I ever knew.  Needless to say, I have been up and down all week.  As a result, I hit The Wharf a few more times than usual to relax and calm the nerves.  Jordan passed me a couple more samples from the giant pack from Emilio Cigars (almost done, Nate!).  One of them was a rather ordinary looking robusto sporting the name " Nomad" .  While cooking Hagrid's beef casserole for dinner (from Harry Potter, yes), I decided to try it out.  How was... Ronald Reagan - movie star, public figure, 40th President of these United States.  I remember 3rd grade when we heard about the assassination attempt.  It was terrifying.    Of course, I also recall the quote from Airplane, " I haven't felt this awful since that Ronald Reagan film."   Mr. Reagan, to me, will always be the President of my school days.  Regardless of your opinions of his politics, you have to respect the guy.  In that light, Ezra Zion has created a cigar to honor our late President.  I have read a bit about this cigar and found myself very excited to give it a try.  I was given one as a sample for the Wharf so, without haste, let's give this thing a...
