Bodega Reunion Digestivo Robusto Extra

Posted by Jack | in Bodega Cigars, Emilio Cigars | on 11 Jul 2014 | at 4:38 PM | 100 views

There is only one cigar under the Emilio umbrella that, until this review, I had to try.  The Bodega brand is a pretty small label under Gary's distribution...only two cigars in their catalog so far.  On the menu for today is the Digestivo.  Made to smoke after dinner with a brandy or cognac, this cigar is said to be very sweet.  I am intrigued.  Here goes.... Construction: A hefty leathery Mexican San Andres wrapper covers this chunky cigar.  The seams are nice and the veins are very well managed. Pre-light Aroma and Draw: Some leather and cocoa notes appear once the cellophane is gone.  I picked up some very sweet raisin and cocoa from the foot as well. Light and Burn: The Digestivo burns perfectly... Continue reading »»

Intemperance BA XXI Breach of the Peace by RoMa Craft Tobac

Posted by Jack | in RoMa Craft Tobac | on 10 Jul 2014 | at 7:27 PM | 177 views

Five days of worry and then some are over!  My Fiancee had a rough ordeal this past week involving her heart.  She is home now with a clean bill of health.  To celebrate, we are sitting on the porch enjoying this exceptionally mild summer weather.  So, I dug into my cigars and decided to review the last RoMa Craft cigar in my collection.  The Intemperance BA XXI Breach of the Peace.  Another cigar in the line that pays homage to the early days.  I won't bore you with loads of words....Let's smoke! Construction: A beautiful dark and oily wrapper leaf covers this chunky cigar.  No seams and very minor veins finished with a flawless triple cap.  The wrapper leaves about a quarter of an inch... CroMagnon Anthropology

Posted by Jack | in RoMa Craft Tobac | on 03 Jul 2014 | at 11:32 AM | 101 views

Time for my second ever RoMa Craft.  I selected the CroMagnon Anthropology today....which leaves me two Intemperance blends remaining.  I enjoyed every puff of the Aquitaine Mode 5, so I expect big things from this corona gorda sized beauty. They list it as a grand corona, actually.  Anyhow, RoMa Craft has some groovy inspirations behind the names of their cigar lines.  Paying homage to the dawn of man, the CroMagnon line has some cool named sizes like the cranium, the early modern human, the slobberknocker, the blockhead, and the 110 ring gauge femur.  So much fun!  Okay, enough talk, let's smoke! Construction: A Grand Corona in size - similar to a corona gorda - with a red-brown and very oily wrapper leaf, the Anthropology is... Continue reading »»

Cuellar Connecticut Kreme Toro Gordo by Villiger

Posted by Jack | in Villiger Cigars | on 28 Jun 2014 | at 9:24 AM | 183 views

Okay, I don't do this very often but I was handed a few samples to try for The Wharf...I try them and give a thumbs up or down for the store to add them to their already massive stock...but this one I lit up today warranted a fast review as I had already started smoking it. It's a mild Saturday morning here in Dayton.  Cloudy, cool for now, and lazy.  I made a cup of coffee and grabbed this Connecticut shade cigar from my humidor thinking it would be a run of the mill mild cigar for my morning coffee.  Boy was I surprised. It was so shocking that my Fiancee recommended I do a review before I got much further into it.  So, here... Continue reading »»

Tatuaje Black Label Corona Gorda (2013)

Posted by Jack | in Tatuaje | on 27 Jun 2014 | at 3:34 PM | 192 views

I know I am a bit behind on reviewing the Tatuaje Black Label Corona Gorda released last fall and this spring.  I have smoked several and I think the time is right.  The past few months have seen a slew of Tat releases and I have tried hard to review as many as I can.  The Tattoo and Pudgy Monsters are on my list of upcoming reviews.  As with many cigars, some time in the humidor has done wonders for these and they are only a couple of months old.  I felt them to be a tad harsh at first smoke but they have already simmered down a bit and...well, let's just get to the review....Better late than never. Construction: This particular specimen contained a... Continue reading »»

RoMa Craft Aquitaine Mode 5

Posted by Jack | in RoMa Craft Tobac | on 26 Jun 2014 | at 11:38 AM | 248 views

So...what is an Aquitaine?  My original thought was something to do with water....Aqui, aqua...you know?  Well as it turns out, Aquitaine is a region of southern France where prehistoric humans settled a zillion year ago.  Of course, in the case of this blog post, Aquitaine is actually a line of cigars from RoMa Craft Tobac.  They have a nice story telling feel to their catalog too...paying homage to the birth of man.  As an extension of the CroMagnon line, the Aquitaine is a full bodied monstrosity by all accounts.  Needless to say, I have been dying to try this brand.  I selected the Mode 5, which is named for the era wherein the prehistoric peoples of that area of France began to fashion stone tools... Nat Sherman 1930 Gran Robusto

Posted by Jack | in Nat Sherman | on 19 Jun 2014 | at 8:34 AM | 169 views

One of the cigars I have been most excited to try makes its first appearance on my blog today.  Nat Sherman has been stepping up their game over the past few years.  Unfortunately their cigars are really hard to find in my area and I just haven't had the notion to order any from online retailers.  So, a couple of weeks back I treated myself to a nice big fat robusto size Nat Sherman 1930.  This cigar commemorates the start of the brand.  Sporting an absolutely gorgeous art-deco band and constructed at the Quesada MATASA factory, this new entry into the Nat Sherman catalog has been on my list for a long time. So, let's get going... Construction: The medium brown wrapper leaf is oily... Continue reading »»

Las Calaveras Edicion Limitada 2014 LC550

Posted by Jack | in Crowned Heads | on 12 Jun 2014 | at 5:27 PM | 222 views

Jon Huber teams up with My Father for an annual series of limited release Cigars.  Sounds like a comic book team up of two grade A superheros, huh?  The first of these limited edition cigars is the Las Calaveras.  Based on an etching and created to honor those that have passed away, the Las Calaveras is another well inspired project from the guy that brought us the Led Zeppelin inspired Headley Grange, the Kings of Leon inspired Four Kicks, and the Jesse James inspired J.D. Howard Reserve.  Jon certainly has the touch.  I picked up a couple of these at The Market and have been drooling over them for a review....So here we go.... Construction: A very oily and solid deep brown Ecuadorian Habano Ocsuro... Continue reading »»
